Twenty minutes south of Kelowna along the west side of Okanagan Lake, Peachland gets a fraction of the attention Kelowna and Penticton do — which, for a photographer, is exactly the appeal. Fewer people, the same lake, and viewpoints up in the hills that look straight down over the water with almost nobody else around.
Why It's Worth the Drive
- Elevated trail viewpoints put you looking down over Okanagan Lake — a different angle than anything shot from the Kelowna side
- Far less foot traffic than Knox Mountain or Kelowna's waterfront trails
- Volcanic-looking terrain and forested slopes give the landscape more texture than the valley floor
- Easy add-on to a day already spent around Kelowna — no separate trip required
Where to Go
The Hillside Trails Above Town
A short climb into the hills above Peachland opens up onto sweeping views over the lake, with forested slopes and the town itself sitting small in the frame below. Best light comes in the last hour or two before sunset, when the lake picks up the colour.
Okanagan Lake, Straight On
The lake itself looks different from Peachland than from anywhere in Kelowna — wider, calmer, with the far shore's mountains catching the light instead of buildings. A long lens compresses the scene nicely if you want the water to feel even more expansive.
Golden Hour From the Trail
Because the viewpoints face out over open water, Peachland's trails are one of the more reliable golden-hour spots in the Okanagan — no buildings or trees cutting off the light on the western horizon the way they can lower down in the valley.
The trails here also work well as a black-and-white subject — the layered ridgelines and the lake's tonal range hold up without colour doing any of the work, which isn't true of every Okanagan viewpoint.
Peachland doesn't have a single postcard shot everyone already knows. That's what makes it worth shooting — you're not chasing a photo you've already seen a hundred times.
Wrapping Up
If you've photographed Knox Mountain and the usual Kelowna waterfront spots and are looking for the next place to point a camera in the Okanagan, Peachland is a short drive with a genuinely different vantage on the same lake. Go in the last two hours before sunset and bring a longer lens for the water.
